Melagiri Hills

Total geographical area of the Krishnagiri District is 5143 sq.km, out of which the total area under forests is 1501 sq.km (29 %). Located amidst contiguous patches of Forests of Western Ghats - MM Hills, BR Hills, Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve and Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve etc.

Consists of two Wildlife Sanctuaries,

  • Cauvery North Wildlife Sanctuary formed during 2014 with an extent of 504.33 Sq.km.
  • Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary formed during 2022 with an extent of 686.406 Sq.km.
  • River Cauvery entered into Hosur Forest Division and flows 40km in the forest areas.
  • Part of Brahmagiri - Nilgiri – Eastern Ghats Elephant Landscape.
  • Part of Tiger Conservation Landscape of South India.
